Having worked with Mr. Herbert over the last twelve years, there is no one more fitting to lead our building each day." Mr. Herbert shared, "Over twenty years ago, Harrington Park School District provided a young educator from the Northern Valley an opportunity to join its staff as a Science teacher. Since then, I have had the privilege to work with the parents, staff, and the community of HP to continue the tradition of working together for the benefit of our students. I am truly humbled and honored that I am able to continue my service to the district as the Interim Principal." Please join us in congratulating Mr. Herbert!

Spartan Sentinel Fall Contests,
November 7, 2022 From the Desk of the President of the Harrington Park Board of Education. Dear HP Community, I’d like to provide a quick progress update on the Interim and permanent Superintendent search. As outlined in my previous letter, the Board posted our Interim Superintendent opening on various online and offline media and received many applications during the week of October 17. The Board spent time going through each application and selected three very qualified and outstanding candidates for in-person interviews, which concluded last Friday. The Board will have another special session this week to select an Interim Superintendent. At the next November BOE public session meeting, the Board will appoint our Interim Superintendent. This will provide some time for transition before the end of the year. For the permanent Superintendent position, the Board will gather proposals from a handful of firms in the next couple of weeks to evaluate the scope of services we will need to effectively carry out the search process, which will include public engagement events. Respectfully, Stephen Hahm

October 7, 2022 A Special Message from the BOE to HP Community: On October 1, Dr. Fried submitted his resignation letter to the Board. It is a great honor for our school to see Dr. Fried become the next Assistant Dean for the School of Education of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at Ramapo College. While his passionate and charismatic presence will be dearly missed here in Harrington Park, we want to wish him a huge congratulations on this exciting next step for him and his family! Under Dr. Fried’s visionary leadership for the past 17 years, the district has continuously improved in all aspects of school operation, from academics and student care to business administration. He has boldly implemented many innovative ideas and truly embodied the “Leading the Way” motto, which has served our students well. Dr. Fried’s last day as the Superintendent of Harrington Park School District will be December 31, 2022. The Board will be following the District policies and regulations to begin searching for a new Superintendent immediately and will engage school and community constituents along the way. There are many things that need to be discussed and determined as the process moves along, but below are some key milestones we can share at this time: Oct.13, 2022: Accept Dr. Fried’s resignation Nov./Dec. 2022: Appoint an Interim Superintendent The Board’s mission and goals continue with the vision of creativity, innovation, and educational excellence, and we will ensure our next leader will embody and share this vision. While the goal is to appoint a Superintendent to start the 2023-2024 school year, the Board will take the necessary steps and time to identify the leader that fits our unique school and community and continue to Lead the Way! I will provide timely and periodic updates as we progress toward finding our next Superintendent. Sincerely, Stephen Hahm
