From the Desk of the President of the Harrington Park Board of Education.

Greetings, I hope everyone had a safe and restful holiday season and break.

On Thursday, January 5th, the Board met for the first session of the calendar year. During this meeting, the Board went through the annual process of reorganization:

BOE President:  Peter Toomin

BOE Vice President:  Matthew Lehmann

Personally, I want to thank Stephen Hahm for his steady hand as BOE President this past year.

The Board also confirmed Ms. Wise as the Acting Assistant Principal for the 6-month term starting on January 1, 2023.

I know this year will be an important and busy year for the Harrington Park BOE. I look forward to serving our school and children in this capacity and to continue to create an open connection with members of our community.  Please continue to connect and share any comments or concerns with members of the Board of Education.

In the first part of this year, we will continue to work with our architect and engineers to determine infrastructure improvements that will enhance the school. We will also soon begin working on the budget for the 2023-2024 school year.

Just before the break, our SAIL students traveled to Old Tappan to participate in Bergen Brain Busters. The team took 2nd place in a very close match against Haworth. There will be another school vs. school event in late March and the students look forward to the opportunity to be division champs.

A group of HP Alumni have formed MAE (Muralists Aspiring for Equality) in collaboration with Project Pride. The group will be painting an image of their inspiration on equity and diversity for the children of Harrington Park. The group will begin painting on weekday evenings throughout the winter in the Middle School wing. We can’t wait to see the work.

In addition to regularly scheduled meetings in 2023, the Board continues to meet to prepare for the permanent Superintendent search. Once the agreement with the search firm is finalized, the first step is to gather input and comments from our parents, teachers, and the community.

Wishing you all a happy & healthy 2023.

Sincerely,

Peter Toomin
