The HP Wrap Up - May 9, 2025

HP Community,

As we wrap up this week, today closed out Teacher Appreciation Week at HP.

The HSA, KPA and Class of 2025 provided so many special treats and events for the HP Staff to show their appreciation.

Today, our Strings and Jazz Band performed at Community Church for Club 60. Led by Mr. Ward & Mr. Merino students performed a lovely program for the community members.

The HSA Plant Sale was held on Thursday and Friday. Students always enjoy shopping ahead of Mother’s Day. A big thanks to our parent volunteers!

As done in past years, this week, our 6th, 7th and 8th graders participated in CPR training and recertification. A huge thank you to our Nurses, Mr. Herbert, Mr. Torrie, Ms. VonTobel and Mr. Lawlor for their facilitation of the training and certification.

May is AAIP Month. Students explore Asian American and Pacific Islander culture in a number of ways this month and throughout the year. Keep an eye out for some social media posts related to projects and research. As shared last week, see the below Save the Date for the Fall of 2025 Chuseok Festival.

Attention 4th Graders! Our second session of Wee Deliver has begun and we need a postal crew! Any 4th grader interested in gathering, sorting, stamping and delivering the Wee Deliver mail, please report to the art room next Wednesday morning, May 14th to help staff the post office! We will meet at 8:05am. There is a lot to do that needs to be completed so please be prompt! Questions? email: pidane@hpsd.org or murphy@hpsd.org. See you there!

In sports news, The Baseball Team avoided the rain this week and took on Northvale. Despite the loss, the Spartans put together 3 runs following hits from Matt Stout, Owen Davis and Julian Torrie. The team's record currently sits at 2-3-1. HP looks to have a big week next week with two games against Old Tappan and a home game against Norwood on Thursday.

The Harrington Park Girls Softball Team carried their winning momentum into this week with a 10–2 victory over Northvale. Coming off of a three-game winning streak, the Spartans took the field Thursday despite a week filled with rain and made every inning count. Paige Radoian pitched a strong complete game, holding Northvale to just two runs. Behind the plate, Leighton Schryver aggressively shut down four steal attempts, including two at home plate. The entire team communicated with confidence in the field and executed smart, heads-up baserunning throughout the game. On offense, the Spartans had contributions up and down the lineup. Maxine Kwon, Alyssa Criaris, Emily Arad, Quinn Hutchinson, and Sammy Finer all tallied hits. In the 4th inning Olive Schryver launched a 3-run home run, igniting the team and the crowd! We’re incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork, and energy the girls continue to bring to each game. The Spartans play Monday at Old Tappan.

Last Friday, the Track Team had their first meet of the season against Norwood and Old Tappan. Coach Bradbury and Coach Lewis are so proud of the team for their effort and sportsmanship. There was a lot of excitement and fierce competition, and our HP team scored in the top three spots in many events, including the girls' 400 and 4 by 200 meter relay as well as the boys' 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, and 4 by 100 meter relay. Congratulations to everyone on an excellent outing.
