Dear Harrington Park Families,

I hope this letter finds you well and staying warm! I wanted to invite you to an upcoming "Coffee and Conversation" event that will be taking place on Wednesday, February 26. These events will provide an opportunity for members of the Harrington Park community to come together, connect with one another, and informally discuss with me the ongoing work of the district. Each event will also have time devoted to a more formal presentation or discussion. I am excited to share that at this event we will be launching a Harrington Park Parent Book Club Series facilitated by myself and Ms. Comstock, one of our middle school English teachers, and discussing The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt.

Since its release this past March, The Anxious Generation has been a conversation starter across the country and was included on numerous best of lists for 2024. In the book, Haidt explores the transition from a "play-based childhood" to a "phone-based childhood" and how this shift has resulted in increased levels of stress, anxiety, and other issues affecting children and adolescents. We are excited to read and discuss Haidt's ideas, analysis, and advice and think about what they mean for our students here in Harrington Park.

There will be two Coffee and Conversation sessions on February 26:

  • 8:45 AM - 10:00 AM at The Community Church

  • 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM at Harrington Park School

If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, please RSVP here. We are very much looking forward to these conversations and hope that you will be able to join us! As always, should you have any questions about this event or other topics, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Sean Conlon, Superintendent of The Harrington Park School District
