• HP Community,

As we wrap up this week at HP, congratulations to the HP Music Department, as they have been honored with the Support Music Merit Award from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The Support Music Merit Award recognizes individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Support Music Merit Award, Harrington Park School had to fulfill criteria around funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

Last week, a group of middle school students (Frankie Gallos, Ava Deramo, Isabella Benasillo, Antonio Campagna, Tommy Ramos, and Maya Enrique) attended the Tenafly Engineering and Design Challenge.  As part of the challenge, students needed to construct a prosthetic arm using the supplies they were given. In addition, they needed to submit engineering documents, a slide presentation and a CAD drawing. Harrington Park students did a phenomenal job with all the components of the challenge. Their prosthetic arm was able to lift a cup filled with Starburst candy six inches off the table! Way to go HP students!

"April is World Autism Month”, and student council is inviting staff and students to come together to go blue to increase global understanding and acceptance of people with autism on Tuesday, April 2nd.We hope you’ll join us by wearing something blue to show your support for a more inclusive world. The homeroom with the greatest participation will receive ice pops!"

In other music news, on Wednesday, the band traveled to Westwood High School to perform for two judges and receive a mini-clinic from them on stage. Bands from Mahwah, Tenafly, Bergenfield and Westwood also participated in the event. Our 6th grade musicians had been working hard to prepare for this performance and did an excellent job! 6th Grade Band earned a Silver Rating at the North Jersey Middle School Band Festival!

Mr. Mark from Nature Center spent time this week with Kindergarten, PreK and Grade3 exploring Pond Time as well as Predators and Prey. A big thank you to the HSA for their coordination and support of this program!
