• HP Community,

As we wrap up this week at HP, on Wednesday evening 4th-6th grade students performed their holiday concert for family and friends. Led by Mr. Adel, Ms. Woods & Ms. Park students put on a wonderful show! Next week, on Friday, December 21st our 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders will perform at 9:00am in the big gym. Parents are asked to access the building through back entrance.

HP is incredibly excited to host author, activist and Noble Peace Prize Winner, Malala Yousafzai on January 9th. With the release of her new book We are Displaced on January 8th, Malala has graciously agreed to answer questions with our 6th-8th grade students. All HP families are welcome to purchase autographed copies of the book. Please go to the HP HSA website for book orders. A tremendous thank you to Books & Greetings in Northvale for making this connection,  a great spot to do your holiday shopping!

In other news, on Monday students from NVOT part of the Heroes and Cool Kids program spent time talking with HP 6th graders. The topic this visit was on bullying and friendship. After high school students present, 6th graders have the opportunity to ask questions.

Earlier this week, our String Ensemble along with a group of clarinets, played at the John Theurer Cancer Center. Students played in the lobby looking to bring some holiday cheer for the enjoyment of staff and visitors.

Tonight, 7th Grade Coffee House-Bounce, from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Join us for our first 7th Grade Coffee House, off site at Bounce JUMP N’GLOW. The turn down the lights and everything glows, including you! Cost is $20.00 per person and Bounce will supply the required socks for all jumpers free of Change. This is an offsite event where parent chaperones will be in attendance in the event of an emergency.

In sports news, The Lady Spartans took on the defending champion this week, and we fell short, attempting to defend one of the top players in the league. We worked a box and one strategy on their star player, forcing her to take perimeter jump shots, but she was still able to knock those down. We executed our defense, but our opponents were still able to have success on offense. Our players moved the ball well and created open shots but we didn’t have the same type of success as our rivals on that end of the floor. The girls will play two tough teams next week on Wednesday and Thursday to close out the year. They'll play home on Wednesday against Norwood and Thursday away against Old Tappan. Come out and support the team.

The Boys Basketball Team won their second game of the season on Monday defeating Northvale by the score of 49-42. The boys had a 12 point lead at halftime but Northvale made a late game run that closed the gap. HP’s full court press proved to be the difference maker. The press caused enough turnovers to help the boys get easy baskets and come out with the win. The boys were lead in scoring by Josh Lim who scored 18 points. Jack Diggins also added 12 points. The Boys will be in action again next Tuesday at home against Haworth. Good job boys!

With the change in weather students are reminded to dress appropriately for school. We are outside in the mornings and at recess unless it is below 32 degrees.

Don't forget you can follow us on Instagram and Facebook! Below you will find information, a few reminders, and several upcoming events that take us through the new year!
