• HP Community,

As we wrap up this week at HP, we want to thank our families for the wonderful turnout Thursday evening at our Art Show. Kudos to Ms. Pidane and Ms. DeBellis for the beautiful artwork displayed throughout HP. We also want to thank our music department, play directors and technology/media staff for all of their coordination efforts.

A BIG thank you to the HSA as they hosted our annual Senior Share Day today. The theme was “fabulous fifties”. Students PreK-3 had the opportunity to perform for their grandparents and senior friends. Our students did a wonderful job! Thank you to the music department, art teachers and classroom teachers for their coordination efforts.

Shrek tickets are on sale!! Please go to the HP HSA website for purchase to the Friday, May 3rd or Saturday May 4th both 7:30pm performances. https://search.seatyourself.biz/webstore/accounts/hps2019/buy-tix?d=0

On Wednesday, 8th Grade SAIL/PLUS students traveled to the Meadowlands Environment Center to participate in a program called Eco-Engineers. The students were challenged to contend with some of the complex questions that confront real-world professionals. A "green building" is one that makes use of sustainable techniques in order to minimize the impact that a building has on the environment. Students researched the durability, renewability, origin and recyclable content of various building materials. Students were then challenged to select materials based on this research and design a model of a sustainable home. Students departed with a better understanding that the precious resources that we once took for granted are quickly being depleted. Knowledge and careful planning will help sustain these resources.

A big thank you to the HSA as they coordinated visits by Mr. Mark to grades 5 & 6. Topic included invasive species and biodiversity. Also this week, ROCA (Rockland Center for the Arts) spent time with students in grades 7 exploring preventative natural disaster

In Earth Day celebrations, thank you to the 4th grade for planting flowers around school grounds. Students Council also sold ocean charm bracelets made of recycled materials this upcoming Friday, April 26th during lunch. All bracelets were hand made by our student council members and will be sold for $2 each. All proceeds will be donated to support The Ocean Cleanup North Pacific Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation. In Green Club news, the group has celebrated Earth Day by learning about our human impact on the world.  Students learned that many of our human activities lend to negative effects and we now have to change that.  Our daily water bottle recycling and education continues as does our reusing of coupons with Coups for Troops. The Green Club currently has a contest on the school website where students have the opportunity to earn an Earth-friendly reusable bag.  Winners are announced weekly on HPTV!  Harrington Park students are very Earth conscious!

Save the Date! May 15th- 10th Annual Blood Drive in memory of HP School '89 Alumnus Mark Fizulich - 3:30-6:30pm in the APR PLEASE GIVE BLOOD (16/17 year-olds need parental consent form)

In sports news, The Spartans' Softball team extended their unbeaten run to 3-0 with a convincing 11-0 win over local rivals Old Tappan. The girls will be back in action next week when we travel to Rivervale on Tuesday and then host Cresskill on Thursday. In baseball news, the OT game was canceled. We are looking forward to games next week at River Vale on Tuesday and back home on Thursday vs. Cresskill!

The HPHSA will be running the Summer Music Program this year for students currently in grades 3 - 7.
