• First Grade Curriculum


    Language Arts Reading and Writing

    Harrington Park School follows a balanced approach to literacy instruction.  All primary grade teachers are trained in delivering instruction that incorporates reading, writing, listening, speaking, presenting, and viewing throughout the curriculum.  Examples of daily activities in the classroom that support the Balanced Literacy Program are:

    The first grade math curriculum includes the study of Numeration and Counting, Patterns, Operations and Rules, Exploring Data, Geometry, Measurement, Time, and Problem Solving.  Additional math games created by the teacher are also introduced to support these skills.



    The science units that we explore in first grade are:  The Solar System, Characteristics of Living Things. and Light & Sound.


    Social Studies

    Units of study in social studies include Holidays Around the World, Self, Family, Rules, and Map Skills. Students will also learn about historical figures such as Ruby Bridges, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Abraham Lincoln.
